The season finale for The CW’s “Nikita” (Fridays at 8 p.m. ET) Season 2 airs on Friday and now that it’s been announced that the series has been renewed for Season 3, the audience can simply enjoy the action-packed, suspense-filled final episode of Season 2.

At The CW upfronts presentation in New York on Thursday, “Nikita” stars Maggie Q and Shane West teased the finale, which will see “Team Nikita” banding together to take down Division, the oppressive black ops agency that trained them, and its ruthless director of operations, Percy, once and for all.

“There are gonna be a couple deaths and they’re necessary to move forward,” Q, who plays the title role, told HuffPost TV. “It’s like death and rebirth. Nikita can’t be reborn until she has some loss, so there’s got to be some loss.”

West, who plays Nikita’s on-screen, on-again-off-again boyfriend Michael, joked to HuffPost TV, “I’m really trying to whet everyone’s appetites as well, so maybe it’s four deaths … Maybe it’s three. Maybe it’s five. Maybe we all die.”

The “Nikita” star teased the double death earlier this week, but can’t say much more.

“I just don’t want to say how close the characters are; if they’re separated, if it’s a hero and a villain, two heroes, two villains, or whatever it might be,” West added. “I might get into exclusive trouble if I continue.”

Still West did tell HuffPost TV that the Season 2 finale is even more exciting than last year’s “wow”-worthy outing. “I think our Season 2 ender is not necessarily plot-wise the same as the ending of Season 1, but it is because we’re closing a lot of doors and opening a lot of doors. And I think, with this ending, if we didn’t get picked up and that was it, some of the fans would have been satisfied at least with the way that we ended the season because it could let you know what might happen to the characters in the future — you may have to think of that on your own, you might have to imagine those things, but here’s a good way to kind of finish it off. But if it’s not — and thankfully, it’s not — then it’s a great opener. I’m actually a little more excited for Season 3 than I had been ever on the show — because of this ending.”

Despite his zipped lips, West did have a bit to say about what to expect. “With what’s actually happening at the end of this year, it’s ‘Team Nikita’ now — it’s these five or six people together and more of like how are they going to interact in the next year. I’m very excited to see what happens with Michael and Nikita as well, with their estranged relationship. It seems like they’re back on, but I’m sure they’ll be back off again next year.”

So what exactly is West looking forward to in Season 3? “It’s hard to say what I’m really excited for because it’s pretty much the ending of Season 2 and it would give away too much,” West said. “But it would be: What is their future going to be like, in the current situation that they’re at? And I can’t say exactly what that situation is yet, but there are plenty of awesome ways to go from it.”

As for Nikita and her longtime nemesis, Percy, Q told HuffPost TV, expect a showdown. “I mean, there’s gotta be. Those two have been at each other for two seasons. She is so sick of fighting him. She is so sick of running from him. So she genuinely is done with it.”

What’s to come for Nikita in Season 3? “People will see the finale and understand that she’s kind of come full circle this season, which is nice, in a way,” Q explained. “There’s fear about the future for sure, regarding the very big decision she makes at the end of the finale. But at the same time, I’m excited for her to just be on a new journey. But she’s going to be from what she’s done in the first and second season.”

Though it was a bit of a longshot for the series to even see a Season 3, Q knows there are many people to thank for the pick up, including the fans. “I’ve never experienced anything like this in my life. I’ve never been on television. This is my first show. I was shocked that I even got my own show,” Q said with a laugh. “You just work on these relationships so hard. With the writers and everything, we’re just trying to create something that will affect people and when it does, it’s all kind of magic. You throw everything in a pot and you hope. You can have the best actors and the best storyline and the chemistry may not work. There’s lots of factors involved. So somehow, this all kind of came together.”

Just call Wednesday night hero night on The CW’s 2012-2013 schedule. The network has moved Friday night player “Supernatural” to Wednesdays and is pairing it with the new DC Comics series “Arrow.”

Meanwhile, Tyra Banks’ “America’s Next Top Model” moves to Friday nights paired with “Nikita”

New medical drama “First Cut” joins “Hart of Dixie” on Tuesdays and the vampires of Mystic Falls will meet the beast on Thursdays with the programming block of “The Vampire Diaries” and “Beauty and the Beast.”

“The Carrie Diaries,” the “Sex and the City” prequel and one of The CW’s highest profile projects, doesn’t make its CW debut until midseason. When it does, Carrie Bradshaw will take over the “Gossip Girl” timeslot. The CW’s other new scripted series, “Cult,” is also being held for midseason.

“One of our biggest priorities this year at The CW was adding more original programming, and we’ve added 50 original hours to our schedule in 2012,” Mark Pedowitz, president of The CW, said in a statement. “With dynamic new dramas for the fall and midseason, and our first-ever summer schedule leading into our October fall launch, this is poised to be a transformative season for The CW.

“The dramas we have for next season are outstanding, with relatable characters and breakout stars. ‘Arrow,’ starring Stephen Amell in the title role, is a bold, edge-of-your-seat action show, based on the popular DC Comics character; ‘Emily Owens, M.D.’ is funny, emotional, and we have caught lightning in a bottle with an incredible lead actor in Mamie Gummer; ‘Beauty and the Beast’ takes a classic love story and adds a procedural element; ‘The Carrie Diaries,’ with the story of a young Carrie Bradshaw set in the 1980s, is perfect for our audience; and ‘Cult’ is a chilling psychological thriller. We have an unbelievable variety of high quality dramas, all speaking to the 18-to-34-year old audience, set for next season.”

Check out the full schedule and first look photos below. And for those wondering where “Ringer” and “The Secret Circle” are, sorry, they’ve been axed.

MONDAY
“90210″ 8 p.m.
“Gossip Girl”/”The Carrie Diaries” (midseason) 9 p.m.

TUESDAY
“Hart of Dixie” 8 p.m.
“Emily Owens, M.D.” 9 p.m.

WEDNESDAY
“Arrow” 8 p.m.
“Supernatural” 9 p.m.

THURSDAY
“The Vampire Diaries” 8 p.m.
“Beauty and the Beast” 9 p.m.

FRIDAY
“America’s Next Top Model” 8 p.m.
“Nikita” 9 p.m.

“This is where everything starts to unravel, and nothing is going to turn out the way you expect it to.”

That’s what Maggie Q — star of The CW’s just-renewed Nikita — told reporters this week when asked what lies beyond tonight’s shocking cliffhanger. But that’s not all she shared.

Here’s what the butt-kicking beauty revealed about the Season 2 finale, airing next Friday — and how it will impact the now-guaranteed Season 3.

On Many Fans’ Favorite Nikita Moment Ever — Birkhoff Kissing His Beloved Nikki Goodbye
“It was so cute! [Executive producer] Craig Silverstein and the writers have always said that there is an undertone that Birkhoff’s in love with her…. It was always the nerd and Nikita. They were close, but he never told her how he felt. Now, we’re never ever going to get into that [relationship] because it’s dumb [Laughs]… but he doesn’t think he’s going to see her again! Aaron [Stanford] and I laughed so hard [during that scene]. He text me later and said, ‘Hey, Birkhoff gets some action!’ [Laughs] It was really perfect. Aaron is such a wonderful actor; it was just this wonderful moment for him.”

On the Penultimate Episode’s Jaw-Dropping Cliffhanger
“The clock is ticking and Nikita is not listening to anyone. She doesn’t want to live like this anymore, and she’s pissed so she’s being reckless. Nikita is now back in Division and she’s stuck — and she’s separated from Michael. Everybody’s separated actually, which makes it very dangerous. She’s completely off the grid down there.”

On the Seemingly Imminent Nikita/Percy Face-Off
“Yes, definitely. It’s been a long time coming. But you’re going to see a [new] Percy and Nikita dynamic… He puts her in a position where you have to see her working together with him, which it just so putrid and disgusting for her. She can either off him or help him, and only helping him will allow her to reach her goal. It’s so weird, you’re going to see them having each other’s back.”

On the Season Finale’s Body Count
“Yes, there will be loss — and I don’t mean a plant. [Laughs] I have to say, I was a little bit torn about [the death] — and by ‘a little bit’ I mean I was pretty torn about it. I understand all the elements that make this show work and why they work because of those elements, so I was a little bit torn about taking a very important element out of what we’ve done for two years — a quality element. But at the end of the day, Nikita’s journey has to move forward and to do that there has to be either some gain or some big loss, because only through those emotions do we grow. We rarely grow when we’re happy; we grow when we’re hurt.”

On What ‘Mikita’ Fans Can Expect from the Finale
“We’ll end on a Mikita moment. It not just a beautiful moment between them, but also one of the most visually stunning Mikita anything! It really was a magical weather moment.”

On the Possibility of a Little Birkhoff/Sonya Action
“They’re cute, huh? There’s going to be a cute little payoff moment with them in the finale, which is good. They’re finally at some point going to have some proxy to be able to have face-to-face [time].”

On the Finale’s Final Moments — Is There a Cliffhanger Coming?
“No, not a cliffhanger, but it definitely leaves on a big ‘wow’! I certainly don’t expect [viewers] to expect what happens in the end. You would never think it’s going to go the way it does… The overarching theme of Season 2 [was] “home,” and by the end we’ll understand what home is to her, what it isn’t, and how she’s come full circle in that way. It’s kind of beautiful, actually. We’re going to give people a little bit of hopefulness, but there’s also going to be a lot of shocker beforehand… It is cool what we do with [the end of this season]; the table is completely turned.”

Such wonderful news! Congratulations to all those involved in the show and of course to all the fans who have worked so tirelessly to support the show.

The CW has renewed Gossip Girl and Nikita as well as freshman drama Hart of Dixie and ended the run of buzzy freshman dramas Ringer and The Secret Circle.

In a bid to fill its schedule with more original fare, the network’s new president Mark Pedowitz is going on something of a pick-up/renewal spree. Earlier today, the CW ordered to series five new offerings, including Arrow and The Carrie Diaries.

Gossip Girl’s sixth season pickup doesn’t come as a surprise as there had been conversations about bringing back the Blake Lively-Leighton Meester hourlong for a final round as the actors’ contracts expire next year. In January, executive producer Stephanie Savage told reporters that the Gossip Girl writers were leaving the story open at the end of season five. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter later that month, she suggested that next season felt like “an organic ending point.” Savage will remain showrunner, while Sara Goodman has been promoted to executive producer.

Nikita, too, will be back for another go-round. In its second season, the Maggie Q-Shane West action drama moved from its plum post-The Vampire Diaries time slot to Fridays at 8 p.m., where it faced stiff competition from the final season of NBC’s outgoing spy dramedy Chuck. Thus far this season, it’s averaging an 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demo.

The second season pickup of Dixie, created by Leila Gerstein, brings Josh Schwartz and Savage’s count to an impressive four series on the air next season. (With the pickup of NBC pilot New Normal, Ryan Murphy can claim the same.) The Monday night drama stars Rachel Bilson as a fish-out-of-water New York doctor practicing down South. Dixie follows the network’s move into shows with more procedural elements than heavily serialized dramas like Gossip Girl.

Meanwhile, the network has canceled freshman dramas Ringer and The Secret Circle.

Ringer, the most buzzworthy of all the pilots coming into the fall season as it marked former Buffy the Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar’s return to series TV, failed to live up to its hype. After opening to a modest 2.84 million viewers and a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demo, a time period success for the CW at the time. However, the freshman drama couldn’t hold its footing, despite airing in multiple windows following the early demise of reality effort H8R, ending its season with a 0.5 in the demo and 1.2 million viewers. Not helping the serialized drama’s case is Gellar’s pregnancy.

The Secret Circle, starring Life Unexpected’s Britt Robertson, took over Nikita’s post-Vampire Diaries slot, giving the network a block of programming from Kevin Williamson. The freshman drama, exec produced by Andrew Miller, earned a full-season order in October when it was the network’s best performing new drama. After averaging 2.4 million viewers and a 1.0 in its first three weeks, Circle dimmed considerably. With both Circle and fellow freshman Hart of Dixie both drawing similar viewership, sources said the former’s serialized nature — making it harder for new viewers to come into the show — worked against its favor. Its series finale aired May 10.

Nikita, Dixie and Gossip join The Vampire Diaries, 90210 and Supernatural as having earned renewals at the youth-skewing network.

One of TV’s coolest and most underrated series, the action-packed and exciting Nikita is airing the final two episodes of Season 2 this week and next – but fans of course are on pins and needles waiting to find out if the show will be renewed for Season 3.

We’ll know the answer to that question by the time the season finale airs on May 18th (The CW’s Upfront is May 17th). But in the meantime, I sat down with the show’s star, the kickass Maggie Q, to talk about what we can expect as Season 2 ends, the potential for a Season 3 and more.

IGN TV: Going into the final two episodes, it struck me that Nikita has much more of a family unit, a team unit, than ever before, which is really cool to see. But it also makes me very nervous…

Maggie Q: It does. As you know, that’s not totally sustainable, obviously. Going into [episode] 22, that’s when the unravel is going to start — not really with the team unit but with Nikita. She’s become sort of reckless in her want and need to just be done with Percy and Division and this fight and this ongoing thing. It just seemingly won’t ever end. So she’s making decisions that Birkhoff and Michael, and even Alex and Sean, are nervous about and Birkhoff and Michael are vocal about not wanting to do. But she’s pretty convinced that it’s going to take something pretty radical to bring this organization down. So she’s definitely not listening to anyone — not that she ever does. But she’s set on it. She is mad. She doesn’t want to continue on this path.

She obviously wants to kill Percy, which would make it done done. But with every solution there births a new problem, right? So for her it’s like, if this organization’s not down and people are not safe and protected from what would happen in the downfall of Division, then we’re not done. We can’t kill 200 people to be done. She doesn’t want to do it in that way. So because of her very particular morals and ethics, it becomes a lot more complicated than it could be. You could go in and mow the whole agency down. But there’s a lot of innocent people in there too.

IGN: For you as an actress, what’s it like having this much bigger ensemble to work with in your scenes these days?

Maggie: It’s different, the dynamic. I have to say, it makes things a lot more laborious in terms of shooting time. When you have five people’s coverage in a room instead of two, it becomes something very different. It becomes a lot harder to make those scenes interesting. You’ve got different directors coming in trying to block differently and just move the scene. And you constantly have directors saying, “Keep the pace up, keep the pace up,” because it’s a constant thing of them thinking as a team, so finishing each other’s sentences and doing that sort of thing. And that can become very boring. [Executive Producer] Craig Silverstein’s aware of that, we’re all aware of that. So that can’t be that way forever. But it’s also really nice to see the difference between different characters in a room. Me and Noah Bean, who plays Ryan Fletcher, we were joking about that scene — I think it was last week’s episode — where they’re all on the sofa and me and Michael are all looking at them and everyone’s talking. I was like, “What show are we making? What is this, Central Perk? What is going on!?” And we were laughing about it. Noah came up to me and he was like, “I finally get more screen time on this show, and we’re all cheers-ing energy drinks on a couch!?” He’s like, “What’s happening!?” I’m like, “Don’t worry, it won’t be forever.” So it is this sort of thing where you’ve got to build the family to break them apart. So you’re right, you have every reason to be worried. Certainly you have different storylines going on within the group, which is nice. You have Michael, who has his own problems, and you have Nikita, who is totally a solitary figure on her own with her own wants and needs — and Birkhoff, who’s super important to their operation. And now you’ve got Alex and Sean, who are falling in love. So you’ve got them, and they could possibly go off together. You don’t know. So it’s all kind of up in the air. If we do go for Season 3, it’s going to be a different season in that 1 is different from 2 and 2’s definitely going to be different from 3. So hopefully we get to explore that. We may, we may not…

IGN: So, I’ve got to ask… What are you hearing about another season?

Maggie: I’ve heard different things. I haven’t heard anything incredibly negative. I’ve definitely heard some conservative guesstimates about maybe we’ll go but not the full season. Maybe we’ll go a cable season [length] — which, by the way, amazing! I think 23 episodes would kill me for another year to be very honest.[Laughs] But it would be great to have a third season — even if it’s our last season, the third season — to be able to just really wrap these characters up and just have a whole different home they belong to and a whole different set of problems for the whole season, and we’d slowly be able to make our way out. It would be a shame to end it on the second season because there is more to do. I’m not saying it needs to go five seasons, but it should go three.

IGN: We’re only a week away from The CW’s upfront. Is it crazy to you to still not know?

Maggie: They’ve always done this to us. They’ve done this every year. Literally last year, the year we got picked up, it was the day before the Upfronts that they announced. It was sort of like my ticket was on hold, and then they booked it. It was bizarre how they do that. But I know they’ve announced a couple of CW shows already. But it’s our show that gets the last-minute thing. I don’t know what that’s about. It’s so strange!

IGN: It’s going hand in hand with the suspense that’s on camera!

Maggie: It’s the suspense! We write it in, we breed it, we manifest it.

IGN: So have you talked with Craig [Silverstein] about story ideas for next season?

Maggie: Yes, absolutely, which makes it exciting. I have to say, Craig has worked so, so hard in the last two years on this show — Craig and all the writers, obviously. But by the end of Season 2, he was like, “I don’t even want to talk about Season 3.” I thought he was going to vomit. He was so burnt — we’re all burnt. So we’ve talked prior to the Season 2 ending, where Season 3 would go and what was going to happen. And I was really happy about the way Season 2 was ending. Going into Season 3, it’s exciting because the way we’ve set it up at the end of Season 2, it can go anywhere. And like you’re saying, that fear of, will the group even make it — that fear is a big reality if Season 3 goes.

IGN: Percy has the ability to make a nuke, but last week he was insinuating that it’s something different. So suffice it to say that, as always, he’s got many, many things going on?

Maggie: He always has something up his sleeve. And the way that they’ve written Percy, the way that they developed him, was so smart. He always has the trick up his sleeve that no one would even think of. And by the way, what he’s really got going on, you’ve no idea. I had no idea. Craig told me a little bit about what they were thinking, but I just thought, “God, that’s so incredibly complicated and cool, what he did.” And it is. In the end, you’re like, “Oh my God, are you kidding me!?” You can’t believe that it actually turns out the way he says that it does. It’s kind of amazing. The go-to would be that he’s building a nuke, he’s buying raw nuclear materials. We’ll see what happens, yeah.

IGN: Your other big villain, Amanda, has been kind of in the wind lately. But will we catch up with her before the end of the season?

Maggie: In a sense. I didn’t want the Amanda character to come back at all at the end of the season because I loved the Amanda/Ari out we had. That last scene of them, to me, was so epic, the downfall of these two giants – Ari Tasarov and Amanda. And Amanda, she sitting on this bed — it’s probably flea-ridden — in this awful motel room as this sort of fallen queen, and she’s still sitting upright like Amanda and she’s still got her poise. It’s pathetic! It’s just this pathetic moment of, “What are we going to do?” You realize they have this weapon, this black box, which still allows them to be in the running. It allows them to be a threat, which is cool, and it keeps them on the show, right? But I just thought it was so epic, the way we closed in on those two fallen warriors in this cheap motel room. It was just such a great visual, and both of them — Amanda especially — trying to hang on to their glory. The reality is, she’s glory-less. It’s gone. She has nothing. Nikita’s gone, her position is gone, her life and career is gone. Everyone she tried to manipulate is gone and hasn’t been affected by her. And that was always her power. So because that was so good, I didn’t want to see her at all until next season. Because I wanted it to be like, “Ahhhh!” But we do see her at the end of this season, but not in the context that you would think. So I think I still kind of get my wish in a way.

IGN: Fans are always so invested in Nikita and Michael. I imagine it’s interesting to have to walk that line, because you want to keep the drama, and you don’t want to keep it stagnant, but you also want to respect that fandom.

Maggie: Totally. I totally agree. But you can’t fight for people who are always winning. You just can’t. So they have to have their own set of problems, and they naturally do, which is good. I love the episode where Nikita finally told Michael how she really felt. Because Nikita’s been this incredibly, infinitely patient person with all the things that Michael’s gone through — with the kid and the woman and the thing and all this stuff. It was just like, “Well, go.” But at one point, that person has to say, “I’m done, and I’m done with your self-righteous sort of, ‘I’ve got to be good to everyone.’ It’s, “Fight for what you love and go with that,” or, “Fight for everything and lose everything.” So it was nice to have all these ups and downs in Season 2. I think there will be a lot more pressures for them in Season 3. But I think at the end of Season 2, it’s kind of beautiful. Nikita opens up a little more to Michael. Listen, Michael is a person who knows her the best, but she still hasn’t exposed herself completely to him. It wasn’t until “Wrath,” until episode 19, that he actually knew the extent of her darkness. He didn’t know that. Nobody knew that. She never talked about that. She never wanted to identify that with her. So they’ve taken on this new understanding, and I think she feels that she can be a little bit more open with him now. So at the end of Season 2, she does say things to him that I don’t think she’s said to anyone or even to herself out loud. So you’ve gotta get that little bit of heart opening again. But like in any relationship, there are ups and downs. I don’t know if Nikita and Michael will always be winning. That would be really hard.

IGN: You did fantastic work in “Wrath” by the way.

Maggie: Oh, thank you so much. That episode hurt — physically, mentally, spiritually. And Albert Kim wrote it, who’s wonderful. But thank God it was Albert because the thing about Albert’s scripts is, I never read them and have to find the heart of the script. It’s always there. Because Albert has a heart like no one. It’s amazing. And when I read the script I remember I called him, and I was like, “Albert… I’m going to need you on this one. I’m going to need you as my friend on this one. I’m going to need your support. I need you to be that person.” He was like, “Oh my God, I’m here for you. We’re going to do this together.” And we did. We were both changed after that episode, as creative people. That was the farthest I’ve gone in my career. It’s the farthest he’s gone in his career as a writer. So it just felt good to finally cross that line and not have to be a goody show. You know, a lot of people, when you have a heroine, they’re always good. The dark side is always explained by something. And what I loved about that episode, it was like, “No, she’s evil. She doesn’t hate evil because it’s not a part of her. She hates it because it’s a part of herself that she despises.” There’s a lot of that going on. So if we don’t know how evil she really is, how can we know how far she’s come? So we kind of did it backwards, which is cool. It’s also so Craig, which I love.

IGN: Anything else you can tease about these final two episodes, in terms of the action and drama we can expect?

Q:Maggie: Big stuff, some stuff that I was actually fighting for. Some cool, big repelling stuff and some big falls and stuff like that. There will be loss at the end of the season, which is great because who doesn’t need that on a show? I think necessary loss, but I also think epic. Eagle Egilsson, who’s one of our directors — he’s our most visual director — he did the finale finale, 23. It felt like it took three weeks to shoot it, I have to tell you. And it is a very big episode for Nikita. But the way some of this stuff was shot, how clever it was done, how beautiful… The scale of 23 is ginormous. Like, I defy any of the big network shows to have this level of production value. We may be on The CW, but I’m telling you we’re rocking out on these finales. I’m so excited. I’m proud of it.
